Sketch Block, KL Says Goodbye
The Striker Stage:
315pm – Pirate Sugar is 5 feisty fearless ladies that constantly wreak havoc in NYC (UCB, the PIT, Magnet, The Tank) and abroad! (Chicago, Montreal, Philadelphia) with their sharp-edged swash-buckling sketch comedy. Pirate Sugar wildly comments on everything from the classics to pop culture, relationships to flatulence. Men, women, and everyone in between will agree that Pirate Sugar is a raucous good time!
6pm – The Foolhardy Manor has been performing sketch comedy since 2008. This NYC Sketch Festival edition of their show contains favorites from the last 2 years. Also, they’re idiots. The Foolhardy Manor is Matthew Allen, Chris Aurilio, Phil Casale, Meghan Conda, Gary DeNoia, Manoli Vozos, and Anik Sood.
830pm – National Scandal is the longest running house sketch comedy team at the Peoples Improv Theater (PIT). We perform our high energy, absurd, and consensually aggressive style of comedy monthly on the main stage. We’ve been featured in national comedy festivals, such as Jersey City’s and NYC Sketch Fest.
10pm – The Templeton Philharmonic are an award-winning, Canadian sketch comedy duo comprised of Toronto writers and performers Gwynne Phillips and Briana Templeton. Together, they perform delectably surreal sketch comedy that is often peppered with hideous Edwardian dresses, stinging social commentary, and dead-pan interpretive dance. They have appeared at the New York, Chicago, and Toronto Sketch Comedy Festivals, and took home the award for “Best Comedy Duo” at the L.A. Comedy Festival. In 2014, they won the “Steam Whistle Producer’s Pick Award” at Toronto Sketchfest, and were nominated for “Best Sketch Troupe” at the Canadian Comedy Awards.
11pm – Sktch Shw, Using social media and current events, Sktch Shw asks some of the funniest comedians in New York to create an entire sketch show in a single day. Tweet your ideas to @SktchShw and we might use them in our next show!
315pm – ManiPedi was pieced together in the summer of 2011. Jacquie Baker, Briana Kelly, Caitlin Weigel, Corin Wells and Aubrie Williams make up this Philadelphia based sketch comedy group. They are the winner for the 2014 WitOut Award for Best Sketch Group in Philadelphia and featured in the Ladies are Funny Festival 2012 in Austin, TX, as well as the 2012 Boston Comedy Arts Festival, where they were named one of the top festival picks by Dig Boston. ManiPedi brings on the laughs with their combination of irreverent wit and inherent un-femininity.
415pm – Hot Buffet is: mostly character-driven and silly, frequently smart and critical, occasionally creepy and risky, and often physical. The show we would like to bring to the Sketch Fest this year would be a brand new concept/themed show that would tie various sketches together with a through line. (Some of the themes on the table are: Outer Space, Under the Sea, Middle School Sleepover and Time.) Our new website and logo are currently under construction but in the meantime please enjoy our Facebook page and Youtube channel!
515pm – Stephen McCarthy performs his solo sketch.
7pm – Marina and Nicco create comedy a thousand times their size, like the super-human ant-people wonder-twins they were born to be. Their shows are charming and disturbing all at once. Just as a little bit of salt makes cake sweet, a little bit of fear makes your laughter more intense. Trust us, you’ll enjoy these sketches.
11pm – Murderfist is a journey to the extreme horizon of your mind-ocean. Winston-Salems, a couple of old chubbies, a horse with a banana in it’s mouth, a man dressed up like a doctor, some Peppercorn schnapps and Monster Mash playing on repeat, Murderfist is going to get loud and get weird and our comedy may just help the pain of being alive. Winner of the 2010 ECNY Award for Best Sketch Comedy Group and named by the Village Voice as the “Best Sketch Comedy Group in New York.” “[MURDERFIST] is the only group that has attempted to bring me back to life!” –Peter Briggard Mayonnaise, inventor of mayonnaise.
