Jarret Berenstein is a New York based writer, comedian and producer. Since moving to the city in 2001 he has performed and developed comedy in a variety of mediums, focusing at times on either improv, sketch or stand up.
As an improviser he has performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, the People’s Improv Theater, and the Magnet Theater where he is currently on one of the oldest and most well regarded house teams, Junior Varsity. He has performed as an improviser in festivals and competitions across the country and in Canada, and has developed new improvised forms like The Third Men and Slam Jam 2005.
As a sketch writer he contributed to and performed in the first sketch show to ever be performed at the Magnet Theater. He has written and performed in a number of comedic shorts that are available online (http://goo.gl/AFYN6), and his one man sketch show, Boosh KlaKlau, was given a Time Out NY Critics’ Pick and won the Best Solo Show award at the LA Comedy Festival. It was also featured at the Magnet Theater and the Philadelphia Sketch Festival. His latest works include The New Job Show (Magnet Theater, UCB Theater, People’s Improv Theater) and Current Events with Jarret Berenstein (Magnet Theater, PIT, The Creek and The Cave).
As a stand up comedian he can be seen regularly at Comic Strip Live, Broadway Comedy Club, and the Comix at Foxwoods Casino. He most recently performed at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland OR, the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival in Austin TX, the Young Guns of Comedy Competition, the Standup 360 Festival, the New York Showcase of the Boston Comedy Festival, and the NC Comedy Arts Festival.
